Building the Aboriginal Early Years Workforce
Studying the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) will deepen your knowledge and understanding of curriculum design, approved learning frameworks, and compliance obligations for a regulated Early Childhood Service.
As a Diploma Educator, you’ll develop the skills needed to effectively supervise teams and to meaningfully collaborate with families to support children’s learning and development in a diverse range of situations.
Our Teaching & Learning Environment

Our training program is delivered across mixed modes, inclusive of block release, online and supported visits to Bubup Wilam, ensuring you’re well equipped when you’re back in your community setting.
Our program will equip you the skills and knowledge to design and implement curriculum’s to support children’s wellbeing and development within the context of the Early Years Learning Framework(EYLF).
This course reflects the role of educators working in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care Environments, such as long day care centres, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To enrol in this course, you must have either a:
- Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and
Care (CHC30113 / CHC30121 / CHC30125), or
- Australian Diploma or Certificate III in Children’s Services AND 12 months recent employment in a regulated education and care service

As part of the Enrolment process, you will need to complete a Pre-Training Review and a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy(LLN) assessment
The course program is designed to be delivered part-time 1 day per week over 1.5 years (with teaching breaks during school holidays).
You will study 15 units of competency, including 12 core and 3 elective units.

Mode of Delivery- You will learn through a blended study model that includes classroom activities, self-paced online learning, and immersive workplace placements. Face-to-face learning is delivered on-site at Bubup Wilam Aboriginal Child and Family Centre located in Thomastown, with online or Block delivery supported for Victorian students.
Placement Requirements-
You will gain practical workplace skills and knowledge through 280 hours of mandatory work placement.
To complete placement you will need to:
- Hold and Maintain a Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
- Have completed the National Child safety training (foundations)
- Hold a valid First Aid in an Education and Care setting (HLTAID012) and CPR (HLTAID009) Certificates
- Mandatory reporting and other obligations Early Childhood Certified
Traineeships: You may undertake this course as part of a traineeship program, giving you real workplace experience alongside your study. Our team can discuss with you how your employer can support you.
By successfully completing this course, you will be equipped to work as a:
- Early Childhood Educator
- Team/Room Leader
- Playgroup Coordinator
- Family Day Care Coordinator
- Assistant Director of an Early Childhood Service
You may also be able to undertake further study in a Bachelor of Early Childhood Teaching or a community services qualification.
This course is subsidised by the Victorian Government through Skills First, but you must meet eligibility criteria including citizenship, Victorian residency and annual course limits.
