Studying the Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC) will deepen your knowledge and understanding of curriculum design, approved learning frameworks, and compliance obligations for a regulated Early Childhood Service.
As a Diploma Educator, you’ll develop the skills needed to effectively supervise teams and to meaningfully collaborate with families to support children’s learning and development in a diverse range of situations.

Our training program is delivered across mixed modes, inclusive of block release, online and supported visits to Bubup Wilam, ensuring you’re well equipped when you’re back in your community setting.
Our program is designed to equip you the skills and knowledge to design and implement curriculum’s to support children’s wellbeing and development within the context of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). You’ll learn and understand how to maintain compliance within a regulated Early Childhood Service, as well as develop the skills to effectively manage a team of educators.
How this qualification aligns to the role of a Diploma Educator?
This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. Educators at this level are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. They use specialised knowledge and analyse and apply theoretical concepts to diverse work situations. They may have responsibility for supervision of volunteers or other educators. Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
What are the Placement Requirements for this course?
To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 280 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Is this course Nationally Recognised Training?
Yes, successful completion of the requirements of this course will lead to issuance of a qualification certificate recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Qualifications
Entry into this qualification is open to individuals who have either a:
- Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care (CHC30125 / CHC30125 / CHC30113), OR
- Australian Diploma or Certificate III in Children’s Services AND 12 months recent employment in a regulated Education and Care Service (12 months cumulative full-time equivalent experience over the past 5 years)

Bubup Wilam Learners will be required to participate in a formal pre-training review process where Bubup Wilam staff determine suitability for the intended program. Learners will need to demonstrate sufficient literacy and numeracy skills to undertake a Diploma (AQF level 5) level qualification. They will also be required to demonstrate digital capabilities to confidently navigate online course content including additional learning resources and assessments.
Placement Requirments
While it is not a condition of course enrolment, you may need to have complete additional requirements prior to commencing your mandatory work placement in this course. Requirements will vary between services and may include:
- Hold and Maintain a Valid Victorian Working with Children Check
- Have Complete the National Child Safety Training (Foundations)
- Hold a Valid First Aid in an Educaiton and Care Setting Certificate and CPR
This program is designed as a 52-week delivery program which meets the AQF recommended timeframe of 1 to 2 years. With school holidays, this program extends to 61 weeks total.
This course is made up of 15 units of competency including 12 core and 3 elective units.

Mode of Delivery:
Delivery is blended with face-to-face classroom activities, self-paced online learning
modules and immersive practical placement opportunities as well as workplace based
learning and assessment.

Placement Requirements:
The immersive practical aspect of the course delivery where students participate in mandatory work placement at a minimum of 1 day per fortnight, totalling 424 hours of total placement activity, which is much higher than the training package requirement of 280 hours.
Working with Children Check (Victoria)
Learners will also be required to undertake a successful Working with Children Check as this is required to work in industry and participate in the mandatory placement component. If you require a WWCC renewal, Bubup Wilam will support the learner to submit the application via Services Victoria.

This qualification enables students to pathway into university level degrees in the education and
care or community services sectors. This pathway is ideal for learners who wish to increase their
vocational experience before entering the workforce.
